Itabashi CampusSenior Assistant Professor Terada gave a lecture at the 153rd Itabashi Volunteer and Citizen Activities Forum

The 153rd Itabashi Volunteer/Civic Activities Forum was held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Ohara Lifelong Learning Center Manaport Hall (Itabashi Ward, Tokyo). Yukiko Terada, Senior Assistant Professor in the Department of Nursing Faculty of Medical Technology Teikyo University, and other faculty members from our university gave lectures at ``Story of Care''.

This forum was co-hosted by the Itabashi Volunteer and Citizen Activities Learning Promotion Center, a nonprofit organization, and the Itabashi Ward Board of Education, and featured lectures and group work on the theme of "double care," which describes the situation of caring for both childcare and elderly care at the same time.
On behalf of the sponsor of the event, Professor Hideki Yamamoto of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of our university gave a speech, followed by a lecture by Senior Assistant Professor Terada. Senior Assistant Professor Terada is also the representative of DC NETWORK, the first support group for double carers in childcare and nursing care by medical professionals in Japan. In his lecture, he introduced the definition of double care and various examples of double care. When he explained the problems faced by those involved, such as caring for a long distance while raising a child, about 30 participants nodded deeply. After that, a group work was held using case studies by those who wanted to participate, with the theme of "What if there was a double carer in the house next door?" and members of the support group, including Senior Assistant Professor Teiko Amame Faculty of Medical Technology Department of Nursing as facilitators. There was a lively exchange of opinions in the group discussion, and when the signal to end was given, the entire venue was filled with an atmosphere of reluctance to leave.
Our university will continue to work on raising awareness of double care both on and off campus, including planning on-campus events for our medical staff.
