A student from the Fukuoka School of Medical Technology Fukuoka CampusFaculty of Fukuoka Medical Technology won the Outstanding Research Presentation Award at the Japan Society of Medical Radiology Education Academic Conference

On Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the 18th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Radiology Education, held at Tokyo Metropolitan University, Anzu Kawasaki (4th year student Faculty of Fukuoka Medical Technology) received the Outstanding Research Presentation Award. Kawasaki is conducting research in the laboratory of Hidemi Kamezawa, Associate Professor the Department of Radiological Technology Faculty of Fukuoka Medical Technology, Teikyo University, and presented a paper at the meeting entitled "Development of an Educational System for Water Absorption Dose Measurement Using Virtual Reality."

At radiological technologist training schools that are not sufficiently equipped with radiation therapy-related equipment and tools, or at training schools that do not have an affiliated hospital, it is difficult to experience radiation therapy in the field, and it is thought that it is difficult to link knowledge gained in classrooms to clinical practice. Therefore, Kawasaki developed an educational system that utilizes virtual reality to improve the effectiveness of education by supporting the linking of knowledge related to standard water absorbed dose measurement required during radiation therapy and clinical techniques, increasing motivation to learn, and deepening knowledge. On the day of the event, visitors were also able to experience the educational system, and many people were interested. As a result of the participant voting for all the topics, the system received many votes, which led to this award.
It is expected that this research will make a significant contribution to future education in the field of radiation therapy.
