Fukuoka CampusThe final lecture of Faculty of Fukuoka Medical Technology 's compulsory subject "History, Culture, and Life in Omuta" was held.

On Thursday, July 18, 2024, the final lecture of "History, Culture, and Life in Omuta," a compulsory course for first-year students at Faculty of Fukuoka Medical Technology, was held.
The purpose of this course is to learn about the history, culture, and life of Omuta City, where Fukuoka Campus is located, to identify personal challenges as future medical workers, and to consider solutions and prospects for the future.
First, the mayor of Omuta and other people active in various fields were invited as guest speakers to learn about the attractions and challenges of Omuta City and to learn about the environment in which they will spend the next four years from various angles. Next, as part of fieldwork, the students visited the Omuta City Coal Industry Science Museum, the Miike Karuta History Museum, the Miyahara Pit of the Miike Coal Mine, a World Heritage Site, and Miike Port, where they deepened their learning from the lectures by observing the documents from that time and the actual coal mining site. After that, under the theme of "Students' Envisioning of the Future Omuta," students divided into departments and courses to conduct group work on how to view the region from the perspective of future medical professionals. Each student faced the attractions and challenges of Omuta City and engaged in lively discussions. Finally, representatives of each department and course gave presentations as a result of the learning results of all the lectures. Each student put in a lot of effort and came up with many ideas for revitalizing Omuta City, making for a meaningful presentation. Representatives from Omuta City Hall also attended the presentations, and the students' opinions were conveyed to conclude the final lecture.
