ICU student Carlos Yulo wins gold medals in the men's floor exercise and vault at the Paris 2024 Olympic Gymnastics Individual Finals

At the gymnastics individual finals of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games held in France from Saturday, August 3rd to Sunday, August 4th, 2024, Carlos Yulo (2nd year Faculty of Medical Technology), representing the Philippines, won gold medals in the men's floor exercise and vault, achieving a double individual title.

Carlos came to Japan in 2016 and after graduating from high school, he completed The Japanese Language Course at the Teikyo Study Abroad Center, and after graduating from Teikyo University Junior College, he entered Teikyo University. Supported by our Faculty of Medical Technology Assistant Professor Kugimiya Muneta as his coach, he made his first appearance as a representative of the Philippines at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, placing 4th in the individual event final on the vault, and won gold medals in the individual event finals on the floor and vault at the World Championships, and has steadily achieved success.

Carlos left his parents' home as a high school student and came to Japan, overcoming rigorous training with Coach Kugimiya, the staff, and the Japanese athletes, and achieving the feat of becoming the first Philippine male to win a gold medal. Congratulations to everyone who supported Carlos on his gold medal win.
