The calligraphy club won 4th place as a group at the 29th All Japan High School and University Student Calligraphy Exhibition and participated in the award ceremony.

On Sunday, August 25, 2024, the award ceremony for the 29th All-Japan High School and University Calligraphy Exhibition (sponsored by the Japan Calligraphy Institute and the Yomiuri Shimbun), which decides the grand prize for student calligraphy, was held at the Hotel Okura Kobe. The Teikyo University Calligraphy Club was awarded a certificate for being the 4th best school in the university division. The works of Otobuchi Koko (2nd year, Faculty of Liberal Arts), Sato Yuuki (2nd year, Graduate School of Liberal Arts), Kyoda Yujin (2nd year Graduate School of Liberal Arts), and Hiyoshi Rino (1st year, Faculty of Liberal Arts) from the calligraphy club won the Calligraphy Exhibition Grand Prize, the highest award. This year, only 56 works were awarded the Calligraphy Exhibition Grand Prize out of a total of 8,784 entries, making it a tough competition, but four members of the calligraphy club won the award, the highest number ever. In response to these results, Fukui Atsuya, coach of our university's Calligraphy Club, commented, "Disappointment, hope, and everything else were condensed into this one day. As the award ceremony ended, feelings of disappointment and hope for next year came to mind. We have to face the reality that we fell just short of the Outstanding Group Award and third place. However, seeing the students' beaming faces, my resolve for next year naturally strengthened. It was a moment when I strongly felt that ``we are challengers'' and that we must keep this fact in our hearts and take on challenges, and that this is the path that we, the Teikyo University Calligraphy Club, are on. We are determined to do better next year, and we would like to make a new start together with the students."
The team captain, Mana Kuriyama (3rd year, Faculty of Liberal Arts), commented, "I am really happy to have been able to represent the team on the stage again this year, just like last year. However, something felt different. The view looking down from the stage was the same as last year, but it made me realize how far the difference in just one place, third place last year and fourth place this year, is. When I suddenly realized that next year would be my last, I felt my motivation to write increase. I will not forget the feelings I had at this year's awards ceremony, and will do my best next year to stand on that stage again with as many of my teammates as possible."
We appreciate your continued support for the future activities of our university's Calligraphy Club.
