A student from our Itabashi Campuswon the Outstanding Presentation Award at the 18th Japanese Society of Clinical Laboratory Education Academic Conference

Kazuhiragi Endo (Faculty of Medical Technology, 4th year) received the Best Presentation Award at the 18th Annual Conference of the Japanese Society of Laboratory Medicine Education held at Niigata University Asahimachi Health Sciences Campus (Niigata, Japan) on August 23 and 24, 2024.

Endo is conducting research under the supervision of Kameda Takahiro, Senior Assistant Professor in the Department Department of Clinical Laboratory Science Faculty of Medical Technology at our university, and presented a paper at this conference titled "Comparison of quality control serum for AST measurement using the JSCC and IFCC methods."
AST (aspartate aminotransferase) is an enzyme found in large amounts in liver cells, and is a typical test item for examining liver function. A high AST value is thought to be a sign of some kind of abnormality. There are two methods for measuring AST values in blood tests: the JSCC method (Japan Society of Clinical Chemistry method) that has traditionally been used in Japan, and the IFCC method (International Federation of Clinical Chemistry method) that has been adopted internationally. The two methods use different measurement principles, and are therefore known to produce different measurements and results.
This time, Endo used quality control serum as a sample to examine the ratio of apo-enzymes * contained in serum measured by the JSCC method and the IFCC method, and presented the differences. The content of his presentation was highly evaluated, leading to this award. Upon receiving the award, Endo commented, "I would like to use this experience to work sincerely in my future research activities."
