The 3rd President Cup Japanese Presentation Contest for International Students was held atHachioji Campus

On Monday, December 9, 2024, the 3rd President Cup Japanese Presentation Contest for International Students was held at Teikyo University's Hachioji Campus. The purpose of this contest is to provide an opportunity for international students to present the results of their Japanese language studies, not only to improve their Japanese language skills but also to deepen intercultural understanding as a place for international students and Japanese students to study together. International student speakers and Japanese student supporters were paired up to prepare the presentations.

This was the third time the event was held. The theme was "Things I Want to Introduce to Japan." Nine international students, who passed the document screening process, gave confident presentations, sharing their ideas and proposals with their experiences. While the judges were waiting for their presentations, the University's Karate Club performed a kata demonstration, which greatly enlivened the venue. After a rigorous judging process, President Award was awarded to international student speaker Al Krisna Maulana (a first-year Teikyo University Junior College President and Japanese student supporter Yokota Suzuna (a third-year student Faculty of Economics) for their presentation titled "I want to spread halal food in Japan." J. F. Oberlin University Professor Emeritus Rinko Sasaki, who was a judge, commented that Al Krisna Maulana's presentation "was professional-level in its use of PowerPoint, her presentation clearly articulated its purpose, and her skillful use of photographs to engage with the audience was wonderful." As such, the two months of intensive preparation, including careful consideration of the presentation's structure, paid off.
Yoshihito Okinaga Chairman and President of our university, who served as a judge, said in his closing remarks, "We were able to hear some wonderful presentations, each of which was difficult to choose between. I was encouraged by the fact that these highly skilled international students are concentrating on their studies at our university. I also learned that the Japanese support students communicated with the international students and created their works, which I felt made for good interaction, and I hope this will continue. This was an opportunity to deepen each other's learning, understand each other's cultures, and hopefully bring something new and good to the next generation, so I hope this activity will spread even further into the world. I hope that you will continue your studies and use the expertise you have developed at our university to create a better society."

The standout presentation, "How to become a nursery teacher," earned international student speakers Entei Hyou (1st year, Faculty of Education) and Waka Kashiwa (2nd year, Faculty of Language Studies) the prestigious President's Award. Judge Rinko Sasaki, Professor Emeritus at Oberlin University, commended Hyou's high-level presentation, noting her evident dedication to practice and mastery of presentation techniques. Hyou shared, "Winning the award was a culmination of two months of meticulous preparation. Every week, I collaborated with Japanese supporters to refine my expression and presentation structure." The collaboration between international and Japanese students was a recurring theme, emphasizing the mutual growth and understanding that unfolded during the preparation period. Kashiwa, the supporter working with Hyou, expressed joy not only for the award but also for the deepened relationship forged through the process. Teikyo University is committed to advancing learning and exchange, evident through the ongoing support for Japanese language education at the Center for Japanese Language Education and the collaborative efforts of students from the Center for Global Education. The university's dedication to fostering an internationalized campus remains unwavering, ensuring a vibrant and inclusive educational environment for all.
