Kasumigaseki CampusSugimoto Professor and Sueyoshi Assistant Professor received Travel Grant Award at South Korea Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery meeting and Distinguished Paper Award at International Pancreaticobiliary Society 2025 meeting

At the Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery Week 2025 and the 62nd Annual Meeting of the South Korea Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery Society held in South Korea (Gyeongju), March 27 (Thu) ~ 29 (Sat), 2025, Maki Sugimoto of Okinaga Research Institute of Teikyo University Innovation Lab Professor and Takuya Sueyoshi of the same institute Assistant Professor gave a speech titled "Innovative artificial intelligence and machine learning based spatial computing AR navigation for open, lap, and robotic hepatectomy (open, laparoscopic, Innovative spatial computing AR navigation based on artificial intelligence and machine learning for robot-assisted hepatectomy" won the Travel Grant Award. In addition, we received the Distinguished Paper Award for the same presentation at South Korea the International Pancreatobiliary Conference 2025 (IPBM2025) & the 1st Asia-Pacific Pancreatobiliary Symposium held in Seoul on April 4 (Fri) and 5 (Sat) in Seoul. These awards are given to outstanding research presentations in the field of pancreatobiliary tract, and the research and innovative technologies of Professor Sugimoto and Assistant Professor Sueyoshi have been internationally recognized and awarded.

Since its first event in 2017, the Hepato-Biliary-Surgery South Korea in the field of hepato-biliary-pancreatic surgery, with the aim of promoting the exchange of cutting-edge research and advances and encouraging insightful discussions under the theme of harmony between tradition and innovation in hepato-Surgery. It promotes research, education, and technology sharing in the international hepato-Surgery field. In 2024, there were 762 participants from 48 countries.
The International Pancreaticobiliary Congress 2025 is a major international academic conference in the field of pancreaticobiliary disease, hosted by South Korea Pancreaticobiliary Society and co-hosted by the Japan Biliary Association, the Taiwanese International Society for Pancreaticobiliary Endoscopy, and the Thai Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and promotes research, education, and technology sharing in the international pancreaticobiliary field. As an international conference, it serves as a forum for experts to gather and discuss the latest research findings and technological advances.

At each conference, the latest technology and research results in the field of pancreatic and biliary tract surgery were discussed, and Professor Sugimoto and Assistant Professor Sueyoshi made a presentation on the development of an innovative spatial computing surgical support based on artificial intelligence for hepatectomy. This is expected to contribute to the further development of surgical support and improved patient safety. Professor Sugimoto said, "I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone involved in this research. We will continue to promote research and development activities at our institute and university." This award recognizes Professor Sugimoto and Assistant Professor Sueyoshi's many years of innovative technology development efforts, and they have been selected for research grants such as the Teikyo University Advanced Research Promotion Grant (Incubation Grant) and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (Basic C). We look forward to Professor Sugimoto and Assistant Professor Sueyoshi's future success.
