The 61st Annual Conference of the Japan Society for Comparative Education was held at Teikyo University's Hachioji Campus over three days, from Friday, June 27th to Sunday, June 29th, 2025. The conference featured nine roundtable discussions, 138 independent research presentations, a public symposium, two research projects, and more. At the public symposium, which was themed "Rethinking the Internationalization of Universities: Campus Transformation Brought About by Mobility," the conference's host, Chairman and President Yoshihito Okinaga, delivered a keynote speech titled "Internationalization Initiatives at Teikyo University."
In his keynote speech, Chairman and President Okenaga stated that "internationalization" is an important element of education and research as stated in the university's School Philosophy and Educational Guidelines. He explained the roles and current status of organizations involved in promoting internationalization based on the university's "Mid-Term Internationalization Plan 2025-2030," and also mentioned the university's challenge to create a sustainable society.
The symposium was moderated by Professor Emeritus Hiromi Ehara of our university, and featured speakers including Professor Hiroshi Ota of Hitotsubashi University, Associate Professor Yuko Akiba of Tokyo Gakugei University, and Professor Kazuhiro Yoshida of Hiroshima University, all experts in comparative education. Furthermore, with the designated discussant being Miki Sugimura, President of Sophia University, lively discussions were held from a variety of perspectives. The symposium was open to the public, and was attended not only by members of the Japan Society for Comparative Education, but also by faculty, staff, students, and local residents of our university, providing an opportunity to experience the importance of comparative education and the broadening of its international perspective.
Going forward, our university will continue to actively develop initiatives that connect education and research with society.
